Nibal Reaches Round of 16 at South Africa International
Revival Sports High Performance Team star Nibal Ahmed has advanced to the Round of 16 at the AQUASPRINGS South Africa International 2025, following an impressive straight-sets victory in the Men’s Singles Round of 32.
Nibal dominated Mauritius’ Leo Douce, winning 21–10, 21–11, to secure his place among the last 16. He will now face a challenging opponent in Portugal’s Bruno Carvalho, the tournament’s second seed, in what promises to be a compelling encounter.
In other Men’s Singles action, Zayan Zaki is set to take on Saudi Arabia’s Abdul Aziz Al Muqahwi in his Round of 32 match. Earlier in the qualification stage, Hassan Zayan Mohamed bowed out after suffering a 21–10, 21–11 defeat to South Africa’s Anthony Phillips in the opening round.
The Maldives’ women shuttlers are also preparing for key fixtures. In the Women’s Singles Round of 32, Aminath Nabeeha (Naby) will face South Africa’s Theodora Ofentse, while Fathimath Nabaha (Naba) has already progressed to the Round of 16, where she is set to meet South Africa’s Anicka Nel.
In the doubles divisions, Maldivian representation remains strong. In Men’s Doubles, the pairing of Nibal Ahmed and Zayan Zaki will compete against South Africa’s Johan Oberhozler and Ryan Armand Swart in their Round of 16 matchup.
The Women’s Doubles team of Naby and Naba has advanced to the quarterfinals and will face the home pair Deborah Godfrey and Anri Schoones. Meanwhile, in Mixed Doubles, the duo of Naba and Zayan is preparing for a Round of 16 meeting with South Africa’s Jordan Van Tonder and Twyla Van Reenen.
