Revival Sports Leads in Historic First Nationwide Badminton Squad Selection

Maldivian badminton marked a historic milestone with the first-ever open National Squad Selection trials, held from 11th–13th August 2025 at the Kulhivaru Ekuveni Indoor Badminton Court.

The event drew over 50 athletes from across the nation, including representatives from Malé, Eydhafushi, Naifaru, and Addu.

Of the 16 national squad places, eight were claimed by Revival Sports, underlining the club’s stronghold in the sport.

The trials aimed to identify the top eight male and top eight female players for the national squad. The top six in each category will receive the national squad salary, while the remaining two will serve as reserve players.

Selected athletes will be permitted to continue training with their respective clubs, on their islands, or abroad.

Both the men’s and women’s draws featured six seeded players, with seeding determined solely by BWF rankings. Only the winners of each group earned direct qualification to the top six, while the remaining two slots were awarded by the head coach based on “best performance” in the matches.

Top Seeds:

  • Men: Nibal Ahmed (1), Zayan Zaki (2), Hassan Zayan Mohamed (3)
  • Women: Fathimath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq (1), Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (2)

The competition attracted over 30 men and more than 20 women, reflecting the sport’s growing popularity nationwide
