Revival Sports Welcomes BWF Decision to Lift Maldives Badminton Suspension

Revival Sports has extended a warm welcome to the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) decision to officially lift the suspension placed on the Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM).

The ban was lifted effective 3 December 2025, restoring the Maldives’ full membership rights and marking a pivotal moment for the future of badminton in the country.

BWF’s suspension, originally imposed in May 2025, stemmed from concerns regarding governance issues after the elected leadership of BAM was replaced with an interim committee. This intervention was deemed to compromise the association’s autonomy, resulting in the loss of privileges such as registering players for BWF-sanctioned tournaments.

Following months of coordinated efforts between BWF, the Maldives Olympic Committee, sports authorities, and the former BAM leadership, significant structural reforms were achieved.

A Working Group, tasked with updating the BAM constitution and facilitating transparent elections—guided the process. Their efforts resulted in an amended constitution, unanimously approved on 1 November 2025, and fair elections held on 22 November under the observation of BWF and national stakeholders. With all requirements met, BWF reinstated BAM as a fully recognised member.

Revival Sports lauded this outcome, calling it “an important turning point that restores confidence and opens the path for a stronger and more progressive era for badminton in the Maldives.”

The club emphasised that the upliftment of the ban presents an opportunity to reinforce good governance, stability, and long-term development within the sport.

Alongside welcoming BWF’s decision, Revival Sports also congratulated the newly appointed Executive Board of BAM, expressing optimism about their leadership at this crucial juncture. The club highlighted the importance of transparent administration, athlete-focused initiatives, and coordinated development efforts that can uplift clubs, players, coaches, and officials nationwide.

“As a dedicated badminton club, Revival Sports remains committed to the advancement of badminton in the Maldives and stands ready to collaborate with the Association wherever needed,” the organisation stated.

“We believe that working together with the governing body will drive meaningful progress and strengthen the sport’s foundation for the years ahead.”

BWF, in its announcement, acknowledged the Maldives Olympic Committee and the Commissioner of Sports for their cooperation throughout the reinstatement process, and thanked the Working Group members whose efforts made BAM’s return possible. Following the lift of national representation rights earlier in the year, the Commissioner of Sports has now restored BAM as the country’s official governing authority for badminton.

The reinstatement marks a new chapter for badminton in the Maldives, one defined by renewed legitimacy, restored international participation, and a collective commitment to moving the sport forward.
