SO Maldives to Compete at SOAP Badminton Championship 2025 in Malaysia

Special Olympics Maldives team will compete in the upcoming SOAP Badminton Championship 2025, scheduled from September 16–21 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The tournament will bring together athletes from across Asia in both unified and traditional formats, offering a valuable stage for Maldivian shuttlers to showcase their skills.

The national squad includes athletes in two age categories:

16-21yrs – Unified Format
1.⁠ ⁠Mohamed Raaif Shareef – Athlete
2.⁠ ⁠Amnaa Ahmed Abdulla – Athlete
3.⁠ ⁠Aminath Raisha Ali – Athlete
4.⁠ ⁠Mohamed Aloof Rifau – Unified Partner
5.⁠ ⁠Mariyam Enas Ilyas – Unified Partner

22-33yrs – Traditional Format
1.⁠ ⁠Ibrahim Rabeeth – Athlete
2.⁠ ⁠Mohamed Jumaan Ahmed – Athlete
3.⁠ ⁠Aishath Maniya Adam – Athlete

The delegation will be led by Moosa Zameer as Head of Delegation.

Coaching responsibilities will be handled by Mr. Rishwan Shiyam of Revival Sports Badminton Academy and Ms. Aminath Shahurunaaz Moosa, both of whom bring extensive experience in guiding players at the competitive level.

SO Maldives’ participation in the championship highlights the country’s growing commitment to inclusivity in sports, providing opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities to gain international exposure.

With three athletes competing in the traditional format and five athletes paired with unified partners, the team is determined to make the most of this international opportunity. The presence of Revival Sports coaches in the setup further strengthens the technical support available to the players, reflecting the academy’s contribution to badminton development in the Maldives.
