Thoif & Riaz edge past Khalaf–Hassan Zayan in Junior Open Doubles Semis
Dhiraagu Maldives Junior Open 2025 saw an upset as Revival Sports pair, Hassan Zayan Mohamed and Mohamed Khalaf Imran, were defeated in the men’s doubles semi-final by Ahmed Thoif Mohamed and Riaz Mohamed.
Riaz, a Bangladeshi coach working with Revival Sports in the Maldives, partnered with one of Revivals own, Thoif to overcome Hassan and Khalaf in straight sets, 21–18, 21–17. The duo’s well-coordinated play and consistency under pressure proved the difference as they sealed a spot in the final.
Thoif and Riaz will now face the formidable pair of Philippine star Kyle Adriel Basilio and former Maldives No.1 Mohamed Ajfan Rasheed. Kyle, ranked fourth in the Philippines, and Ajfan advanced after dismantling the Bangladeshi duo of Hassan Fakir and Mohamed Nurer Nobi, winning 21–06, 21–12. Notably, Kyle and Ajfan had already eliminated Revival’s top duo, Zayan Zaki and Nibal Ahmed, earlier in the tournament.
Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Revival Sports continues to dominate. National stars Nibal Ahmed and Zayan Zaki will contest the Men’s Open Singles crown after winning their all-Revival semi-final battles. Zayan came from behind to beat Hassan Zayan in a tense three-set clash (11–21, 21–13, 21–12), while Nibal delivered a commanding performance to dispatch Haisham Ibrahim Ali (21–03, 21–12).
Today’s fixtures also feature the Women’s Open Doubles final, where sisters Fathimath Nabaha and Aminath Nabeeha will represent Revival Sports against the Philippines duo, Mareykris Misty Acuhido and Roselyn Cayaon Waheed.
