Hassan Zayan Mohamed produced a strong performance in the men’s singles qualifying rounds to secure a place in the main draw of the PETRONAS Malaysia International Series 2026, as seven athletes from Revival Sports’ High Performance Team is taking part in this competition.

The tournament is being held from 1 to 6 September, with Revival Sports athletes competing across men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

Hassan Zayan secured an impressive straight-games victory over Malaysian player Tan Mun Dick in the qualifying round, winning 21-19, 21-14 to advance to the main draw. His run ended in the opening main draw match, where he was defeated by Thailand’s Utchan Ruaysap, 21-7, 21-7.

The win in qualifying marked an important result for Hassan Zayan and Revival Sports, with the young Maldivian gaining valuable experience and competitive exposure against international opposition.

In the men’s singles main draw, Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki (Zayan Zaki) and Nibal Ahmed represented Revival Sports, while Haisham Ibrahim Ali and Hassan Zayan competed in the qualifying rounds.

In the women’s singles, Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba) and Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (Naby) were both entered directly into the main draw.

The club is also represented in three doubles disciplines. Zayan and Nibal are competing together in men’s doubles, while Haisham has partnered with Mohamed Khalaf Imran. Naba and Naby are competing in women’s doubles, while Zayan Zaki and Naba have entered the mixed doubles main draw. Nibal and Naby competed in the mixed doubles qualifying rounds.

Haisham was unable to progress from the men’s singles qualifying stage after losing to Malaysian player Hang Marcus, 21-3, 21-16.

In the men’s singles main draw, Zayan Zaki faced Malaysian 15th seed Muhammad Haziq, losing 21-11, 21-9. Nibal was also eliminated after a 21-11, 21-15 defeat against India’s Nithin Raghavendar.

Meanwhile, Nibal and Naby’s mixed doubles campaign ended in the qualifying rounds following a 21-14, 21-11 loss to Malaysian pair Yao Rong Lin and Zi Yu Jola Lim.

Revival Sports still have several athletes and pairs in action as the tournament continues.

In the women’s singles, Naba will face Singapore’s Tan Mindy, while Naby is scheduled to take on Indonesia’s Jolin Angela.

In the men’s doubles, Haisham and Khalaf will play Singaporean pair Chan Yeng and Tan Xuan, while Zayan and Nibal will face Australia’s Emmanuel Stephen and Ephraim Stephen.

Naba and Naby have received a bye in the women’s doubles and will advance directly to the Round of 16. In mixed doubles, Zayan and Naba will face Malaysian pair Isyraf Hafizin and Lee Joinne.

The PETRONAS Malaysia International Series 2026 is the second BWF-sanctioned international tournament Revival Sports has competed in during its historic two-month training camp in Malaysia. The overseas camp has provided the club’s High Performance Team with extended training, international sparring and tournament opportunities as part of its continued efforts to raise the standard of Maldivian badminton and prepare athletes for future international competitions.
