Revival Sports and Maldives national badminton player Hassan Zayan Mohamed has credited his recent overseas training and tournament exposure for helping him capture the first senior singles title of his career at the Eydhafushi Badminton Cup.

Fresh from representing Revival Sports on its Europe Tour, Hassan Zayan produced an impressive performance to win the men’s singles title, defeating fellow Revival Sports player Haisham Ibrahim Ali in a thrilling three-game final. Hassan Zayan edged the closely contested encounter 16-14, 13-15, 15-13, securing his maiden senior singles championship.

The victory marks another milestone in Hassan Zayan’s development following an intensive period of international competition and training.

Ahead of the Eydhafushi Badminton Cup, Hassan Zayan was part of the Revival Sports Europe Tour, where he competed in BWF international tournaments in the Czech Republic, Italy and France. Prior to travelling to Europe, he also participated in the Revival Sports Malaysia training camp, designed to prepare the squad for the demanding international schedule.

Speaking to Revival Sports Media, Hassan Zayan said he has noticed significant improvements in his game since the beginning of the year.

“I feel like I have improved since the beginning of this year. I believe my technique is more refined now, and understanding the game better helps me make tactical changes during my matches. I also feel I can endure longer hours of play at high intensity compared to before,” he said.

Reflecting on the Europe Tour, Hassan Zayan said the experience extended far beyond competing in tournaments.

“I learned a lot during the Europe Tour. I learned more about keeping my body conditioned and preparing for matches despite the long hours of travel. I also learned a lot tactically because the style of play is quite different compared to Asia,” he explained.

Hassan Zayan believes those experiences played a key role in his success at the Eydhafushi Badminton Cup.

“I tried to use what I gained from all these experiences and prepare well for my matches. I am extremely happy to have won this tournament, especially since this is my first ever title in a senior category. Alhamdhulillah,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to those who have supported his journey.

“I would like to thank my parents, brothers and my family for their support from the beginning, my club for all the opportunities they provide, my coach, teammates for all the advice and support they give me, and my friends as well.”

Looking ahead, Hassan Zayan has set his sights on continued success both domestically and internationally.

“I aim to perform well and win the upcoming national tournament, as well as perform better in upcoming international tournaments. Winning a medal for the Indian Ocean Island Games 2027 is also one of my goals,” he said.

Hassan Zayan’s breakthrough title comes as another encouraging sign for Revival Sports’ athlete development programme, with the national player turning valuable international exposure into his first senior championship and setting his sights on even bigger achievements in the years ahead.
