Seven athletes from Revival Sports’ High Performance Team represented the club at the PETRONAS Malaysia International Series 2026, as the historic two-month Malaysia training camp continued to provide Maldivian players with valuable international competition and high-level exposure.

The tournament, held from 1 to 6 September, saw Revival Sports athletes compete across men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

One of the standout results for Revival Sports came from Hassan Zayan Mohamed, who secured an impressive straight-games victory over Malaysian player Tan Mun Dick in the men’s singles qualifying round. Hassan won 21-19, 21-14 to progress to the main draw. His run ended in the opening round of the main draw, where he was defeated by Thailand’s Utchan Ruaysap, 21-7, 21-7. Nevertheless, the qualifying victory marked an important result for Hassan and Revival Sports, with the young Maldivian gaining valuable experience and competitive exposure against international opposition.

In the men’s singles, Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki (Zayan Zaki) and Nibal Ahmed competed directly in the main draw, while Hassan and Haisham Ibrahim Ali began their campaigns in the qualifying rounds. Haisham was unable to progress from qualifying after losing to Malaysian player Hang Marcus, 21-3, 21-16. In the main draw, Zayan Zaki faced Malaysian 15th seed Muhammad Haziq, losing 21-11, 21-9, while Nibal was eliminated following a 21-11, 21-15 defeat against India’s Nithin Raghavendar.

In the women’s singles, Fathimath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba) and Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (Naby) were both entered directly into the main draw. Naba lost to Singapore’s Tan Mindy by 21-19, 21-15, while Naby was defeated by Indonesia’s Jolin Angela by 21-07, 21-08.

Revival Sports was also represented across all three doubles disciplines.

In the men’s doubles, Zayan Zaki and Nibal competed together, while Haisham and Mohamed Khalaf Imran formed the club’s second pair. Haisham and Khalaf were defeated by Singaporean pair Chan Yeng and Tan Xuan, 21-5, 21-8. Zayan and Nibal put up a stronger challenge against Australian brothers Emmanuel Stephen and Ephraim Stephen, but narrowly lost 21-12, 23-21. In the women’s doubles, sisters Naba and Naby received a bye into the Round of 16. Their campaign ended at that stage after a 21-12, 21-13 defeat against Chinese Taipei pair Yi Tsen Hsieh and Jui Yi Hsu.

The club also competed in mixed doubles, with Zayan Zaki and Naba entered directly into the main draw, while Nibal and Naby competed in the qualifying rounds. Nibal and Naby’s campaign ended in qualifying after a 21-14, 21-11 loss to Malaysian pair Yao Rong Lin and Zi Yu Jola Lim.

In the main draw, Zayan and Naba faced Malaysian pair Isyraf Hafizin and Lee Joinne, losing 21-14, 21-14.

PETRONAS Malaysia International Series 2026 was the second BWF-sanctioned international tournament contested by Revival Sports during its historic two-month training camp in Malaysia. The overseas camp has provided the club’s High Performance Team with extended training opportunities, international sparring and competitive matches against players from different countries and playing styles.

With seven athletes competing across multiple disciplines, the tournament represented another significant stage in Revival Sports’ wider effort to raise the standard of Maldivian badminton. The experience gained through international training and BWF-sanctioned competition remains an important part of the club’s preparations for future major tournaments and its long-term athlete development objectives.
