Nibal, Zayan Zaki and Naba-Naby Reach Yonex Italian Open Round of 16

Revival Sports continued their impressive run at the Yonex Italian Open 2026, with Nibal Ahmed and Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki (Zayan Zaki) advancing to the men’s doubles Round of 16, while sisters Fathimath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba) and Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (Naby) also booked their place in the last 16 of the women’s doubles competition.

Nibal and Zayan Zaki produced a commanding display in the men’s doubles Round of 32, defeating Italian pair A. Gurschler and Telfser in straight sets 21-12, 21-15 to secure a place in the next round. They will now face German duo Malik Bourakkadi and Kenneth Neumann for a place in the quarter-finals.

Naba and Naby were equally impressive in the women’s doubles, cruising past Egyptian sisters F. Fikree Eltaweel and N. Fikree Eltaweel 21-2, 21-2 to reach the Round of 16. The Maldivian pair will next take on the UAE partnership of Tabia Khan and Sreeyuktha Sreejith Parol.

Earlier in the tournament, Nibal and Naby successfully negotiated the mixed doubles qualifying rounds, defeating Italian pair M. Frank and P. Kopania 21-18, 21-12 to earn a place in the main draw.

Naby also progressed through the women’s singles qualifiers after a hard-fought three-set victory over Dutch player M. Dujindam. She claimed the opening set 21-15, dropped the second 15-21, before responding strongly to take the decider 21-12.

However, both Revival Sports players exited the women’s singles main draw in the Round of 32. Naby was defeated by Ireland’s S. Flynn 21-12, 21-13, while Naba lost to Romania’s V. Ginga 21-10, 21-12.

The mixed doubles competition produced mixed fortunes for the Maldivian club. Naba and Zayan Zaki were beaten 21-9, 21-13 by France’s A. Tores and the Netherlands’ K. De Wit, while Nibal and Naby were scheduled to face Dutch pair T. Stoffelen and I. Pthuizen.

Revival Sports also endured disappointment in the men’s singles qualifying rounds, with all three players exiting the competition. Hassan Zayan Mohamed lost 21-7, 21-8 to Portugal’s A. Bernardo, Nibal was beaten 21-18, 21-17 by Portugal’s F. Felix, and Zayan Zaki fell 21-7, 21-9 to India’s A. Malik.

In the remaining men’s doubles fixture, Hassan Zayan and Mohamed Khalaf Imran were defeated by German pair D. Hess and S. Krax 21-2, 21-2 in the Round of 32.

With two Maldivian pairings progressing to the Round of 16, Revival Sports remain firmly in contention at the Yonex Italian Open 2026 as they continue their European campaign.
