Hassan Zayan Mohamed emerged as the men’s singles champion of the Eydhafushi Badminton Cup after defeating Haisham Ibrahim Ali in a thrilling three-set final, bringing the curtain down on an exciting two-day finals that showcased the island’s rising badminton talent.

In the key event of the tournament, Hassan overcame Haisham 16-14, 13-15, 15-13 in a closely contested battle to lift the men’s singles title. The final lived up to expectations, with both players producing high-quality rallies before Hassan sealed victory in the decisive third game.

The finals were held over two days, with the first set of championship matches taking place on 20 July. Aishath Alaya Nadeem and Marsha Hussain Rasheed claimed the Under-13 Girls’ Doubles title with a 15-6, 15-9 victory over Erum and Alya. In the Under-15 Boys’ Singles final, Ethan fought back from a game down to defeat Ahmed Akil Masuood 10-15, 15-11, 15-9, while Ethan and Azkaa secured the Under-15 Mixed Doubles title with a commanding 15-7, 15-5 win over Mohamed Yuan Arafath Saeed and Aishath Nyam Saaid.

The Women’s Singles title was won by Laara, who recovered after dropping the opening game to defeat Nyam 9-15, 15-11, 15-11.

The remaining finals were played on 21 July. Ibrahim Alaf defeated Ibrahim Naaim Nazeem 15-5, 15-9 to win the Under-11 Boys’ Singles title, while Alaya completed a memorable tournament by overcoming Marsha 15-13, 10-15, 15-12 to add the Under-13 Girls’ Singles crown to her doubles success.

Azkaa captured the Under-15 Girls’ Singles title with a straight-games 15-9, 15-12 victory over Nyam. In the Under-15 Boys’ Doubles final, Ethan and Eelaaf edged Akil and Yuan 15-13, 18-16 in another closely fought encounter.

The tournament also proved highly successful for the academy, which finished with 18 medals across all categories, comprising two gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals.

The academy’s gold medals came through Aishath Alaya Nadeem, who won the Under-13 Girls’ Singles title and partnered Marsha Hussain Rasheed to victory in the Under-13 Girls’ Doubles, while Hassan Zayan Mohamed added the Men’s Singles crown.

Silver medals were won by Ibrahim Naaim Nazeem (Under-11 Boys’ Singles), Marsha Hussain Rasheed (Under-13 Girls’ Singles), Ahmed Akil Masuood (Under-15 Boys’ Singles), Mohamed Yuan Arafath Saeed and Aishath Nyam Saaid (Under-15 Mixed Doubles), Aishath Nyam Saaid (Under-15 Girls’ Singles), Mohamed Yuan Arafath Saeed and Ahmed Akil Masuood (Under-15 Boys’ Doubles), Aishath Nyam Saaid (Women’s Singles), and Haisham Ibrahim Ali (Men’s Singles).

The academy also secured nine bronze medals across the Under-11 Boys’ Doubles, Under-15 Boys’ Singles, Under-15 Boys’ Doubles, Under-15 Mixed Doubles, Under-17 Girls’ Doubles, Under-17 Girls’ Singles, Senior Women’s Singles, Senior Mixed Doubles and Senior Women’s Doubles events, highlighting the depth of talent across its youth and senior programmes.
