Revival Sports Athletes Gain International Exposure at TOYOTA Phuket International Challenge Ahead of European Tour

Four athletes from the Revival Sports High Performance Team competed at the TOYOTA Phuket International Challenge 2026 in Thailand as part of the club’s ongoing IOIG 2027 Development Project and preparations for an extensive European tournament campaign.

The quartet from Revival Sports and National Badminton squad, Nibal Ahmed, Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki (Zayan Zaki), Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba) and Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (Naby), travelled to Phuket from Malaysia, where they are currently undertaking an intensive overseas training camp designed to enhance their international competitiveness.

Competing against a strong field featuring players from some of Asia’s leading badminton nations, the Maldivian athletes gained valuable experience at the BWF-sanctioned tournament, which started on June 9.

In the men’s singles event, Zayan Zaki was defeated by Myanmar’s Nyan Shaine Lin in straight games, 21-16, 21-10, while Nibal went down to American player Ryan Tan by a score of 21-14, 21-10.

In the women’s singles competition, Naba faced a difficult challenge against Chinese Taipei’s Han Yu Chen, losing 21-5, 21-9. Naby also exited in the opening round after a 21-8, 21-9 defeat to Thailand’s Nattanant Kulamat.

The men’s doubles pairing of Nibal and Zayan Zaki were unable to progress after suffering a 21-11, 21-12 defeat to Chinese Taipei duo Chen Yu Zhe and Chen Ze Ru.

In mixed doubles, Zayan and Naba produced a competitive performance before losing 21-11, 21-17 to Thailand’s Kitipat Karnnithiwat and Kanisorn Assawasakuldet.

Meanwhile, Naba and Naby remain in action in the women’s doubles event, where they are scheduled to face Japanese pair Tomona Harima and Yuho Imai, who currently hold a world doubles ranking of 153.

The Phuket tournament forms part of Revival Sports’ broader international development pathway under its ambitious Indian Ocean Island Games 2027 Development Project, which aims to provide athletes with regular exposure to higher-level international competition.

Following the completion of their training camp in Malaysia, the athletes will continue their overseas programme in Europe, beginning with the Czech International Future Series 2026 from June 18 to 21. The team will then compete at the Yonex Italy Open 2026 from June 24 to 28 before concluding the tour at the FZ Forza Future Series Nouvelle-Aquitaine 2026 in France from July 2 to 5.

The international campaign represents one of the most extensive overseas programes undertaken by Revival Sports and is expected to play a key role in the athletes’ long-term development while providing crucial BWF ranking opportunities ahead of future regional and international competitions.
