Revival Sports conclude European badminton tour with historic milestones and valuable international experience
Revival Sports have wrapped up an extensive European badminton tour that saw the Maldivian club compete in three BWF-sanctioned international tournaments, delivering historic achievements while gaining valuable experience against some of Europe’s top players.
Following a training camp in Malaysia, the team embarked on a month-long campaign featuring the Czech International Future Series 2026, the Yonex Italy Open 2026, and the FZ Forza Future Series Nouvelle-Aquitaine 2026 in France.
Across the three tournaments, Revival Sports players contested 40 matches, recording nine victories. The team played 12 matches in the Czech Republic, 15 in Italy, and 13 in France, securing two wins in Czechia, five in Italy, and two in France.
The highlight of the tour came at the Yonex Italy Open 2026, where sisters Fathimath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba) and Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (Naby) created Maldivian badminton history by becoming the first Maldivian pair to reach the quarter-finals of a BWF Circuit elite tournament in Europe.
The tour concluded in France with several Revival Sports players competing across women’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Naba produced the standout performance for the Maldivian side in the women’s singles competition, battling past Dutch player M. Duijndam in three sets, 21-11, 17-21, 21-16, to reach the Round of 16. Her run ended against France’s I. Villard, who claimed victory 21-17, 21-17.
Naby exited in the Round of 32 after a 21-19, 21-14 defeat to Great Britain’s Aahna Bhatia.
Revival Sports were unable to progress in the men’s doubles competition, with Nibal Ahmed and Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki (Zayan Zaki) falling 21-12, 21-15 to French pair Claerbout and Fourcade, while Mohamed Khalaf Imran and Hassan Zayan Mohamed were defeated 21-6, 21-16 by Britain’s Chua YC and R. Clark.
In mixed doubles, top seeds Naba and Zayan Zaki entered directly into the Round of 16 but were beaten 21-12, 21-14 by French pair D. Carnot and E. Guilbard. In the women’s doubles competition, Naba and Naby were eliminated by French duo Beule and Heitzmann, who secured a 21-17, 21-13 victory.
Although the French tournament marked the end of Revival Sports’ European campaign, the tour represented another significant step forward for Maldivian badminton. Beyond the nine victories recorded across three international events, the historic quarter-final appearance in Italy demonstrated the growing competitiveness of Maldivian players on the European circuit.
The month-long campaign provided Revival Sports athletes with valuable exposure to high-level international competition and further strengthened the club’s long-term commitment to developing players capable of competing consistently on the BWF international circuit.
