Revival Sports’ Czech International Run Ends in Round of 16

Revival Sports’ mixed doubles pair of Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba) and Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki (Zayan Zaki) saw their impressive run at the Czech International Future Series 2026 come to an end in the Round of 16, concluding the Maldivian club’s best-performing campaign at the tournament.

After becoming the standout performers for Revival Sports by reaching the last 16 of the mixed doubles competition, Naba and Zayan were defeated by Swiss pair Harzenmoser and Metzger in straight sets, losing 21-5, 21-14.

The duo had earlier secured one of the club’s biggest victories of the tournament, overcoming Ukrainian pair Artem Synytsia and Kseniia Rozhkova 21-17, 21-19 in the Round of 32 to advance to the knockout stage and ensure Maldivian representation remained in the mixed doubles draw.

Revival Sports also came close to a breakthrough in the women’s doubles competition. Naba and Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (Naby) produced a spirited performance in the Round of 16 against Czech-Estonian combination Fliglova and Marija Paskotsi. After winning the opening set 21-15, the Maldivian pair narrowly missed out on a quarterfinal place, eventually falling 22-20, 27-25 in a closely contested encounter.

Earlier in the tournament, Naby made a strong start in the women’s singles qualification rounds, defeating Czech player Kristyna Kozakova 21-11, 21-10. However, her singles campaign ended in the next round after Estonia’s Paskotsi recovered from a set down to win 16-21, 21-14, 21-13.

In the women’s singles main draw, Naba was defeated by Czech player Maixnerova 21-14, 21-07.

The men’s singles campaign also ended in the qualification rounds. Hassan Zayan Mohamed lost to Czech player Tedeas Brazda 21-7, 21-7, while Nibal Ahmed suffered a narrow defeat to Greece’s Evangelos Anastasiou 22-20, 21-18. Zayan Zaki was beaten by India’s Bhargav Somasundara 21-13, 21-09.

In another mixed doubles fixture, Naby and Nibal narrowly missed out on a place in the Round of 16 after losing a three-set battle against Mayan Mogilner and Heli Neiman. The Maldivian pair won the first set 21-19 before going down 19-21, 18-21.

The club also faced strong opposition in men’s doubles. Zayan Zaki and Nibal Ahmed took the opening set against Adam Travinskiy and Mark Aronchik but eventually lost 21-16, 9-21, 12-21. Mohamed Khalaf Imraan and Hassan Zayan were defeated 21-2, 21-5 by Ukraine’s Vladyslav Kunin and Yegor Romniuk.

The Czech International Future Series marked the first stop of Revival Sports’ European tour, which forms part of the club’s international development programme aimed at providing athletes with high-level competitive exposure ahead of future regional and international events. The tour will continue with further tournaments across Europe as the Maldivian club seeks to build experience on the international badminton circuit.
