Revival Sports Launches Ambitious IOIG 2027 Development Project to Boost Maldives Medal Hopes
Revival Sports has officially announced the launch of its Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2027 Development Project, marking the most ambitious initiative ever undertaken by the club in its continued push to elevate Maldivian badminton on the regional stage.
The multi-year project has been designed with a clear objective, to secure places for six male and four female Revival Sports athletes in the Maldives national badminton squad for the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games, while supporting Team Maldives in achieving a record medal haul at the competition.
The programme will feature a comprehensive high-performance structure that includes overseas training camps, participation in BWF-sanctioned international tournaments, specialist-led strength and conditioning programmes, under the guidance from coach, Nashfan Mohamed and dedicated singles and doubles training systems tailored to each athlete.
According to Revival Sports, the initiative represents the largest single investment the club has made into athlete development since its establishment, with the project being fully funded to ensure players receive the resources and international exposure required to compete at the highest regional level.
The male squad selected for the IOIG 2027 Development Project includes Nibal Ahmed, Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki, Hassan Zayan Mohamed, Haisham Ibrahim Ali, Mohamed Khalaf Imraan, Ayyoob Azhar Mohamed, Ahmed Ayaan Bin Mohamed Solah, Adam Maheen Mohamed, Hoodh Bin Hamid and Mohamed Ahsan Ahmed.
The women’s squad for the programme features Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba), Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (Naby), Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail (Mai) and Aminath Shahurunaaz Moosa.
Revival Sports stated that the project is aimed not only at improving individual athlete performance, but also at strengthening the Maldives’ overall competitiveness in badminton ahead of one of the region’s biggest multi-sport events.
The club also acknowledged the contributions of several key partners who helped make the initiative possible. Revival Sports extended gratitude to Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) for its continued partnership and support, as well as the Ministry of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation for providing financial assistance through athlete scholarship programmes.
Appreciation was also extended to the Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM) for its support and collaboration in facilitating the project.
In addition, Revival Sports thanked the wider badminton community and supporters who continue to use and book courts at Revival Stadium, noting that community support directly contributes to athlete development initiatives such as the IOIG 2027 project.
With preparations now officially underway, Revival Sports believes the initiative could play a significant role in shaping the future of Maldivian badminton and creating a stronger national presence at the Indian Ocean Island Games in 2027.
